چکیده

Reverberation-robust speech recognition has become very important in the field of distant-talking speech recognition. However, as no common reverberation criteria for the recognition of reverberant speech have yet been proposed, it has been difficult to estimate its effectiveness. To address this problem in 2007, we investigated early and late reflections on distanttalking speech recognition to help define suitable reverberation criteria. We here propose new reverberation criteria RSR-Dn (Reverberant Speech Recognition criteria with Dn) based on our previous investigations and ISO3382 acoustic parameters. We first designed the criteria using the relationship between speech recognition performance and ISO3382 acoustic parameters. We then estimated the speech recognition performance obtained with the criteria. Evaluation experiments confirmed that the recognition performance can be accurately and robustly estimated with our proposed reverberation criterion RSRD20Q (Reverberant Speech Recognition criterion withD20 and Quadratic regression function).

Performance estimation of speech recognition based on acoustic parameters under reverberation environments with CENSREC-4

The Corpus and Environment for Noisy Speech RECognition 4 (CENSREC-4) evaluation framework has been distributed for evaluating distant-talking speech under various reverberation environments. The CENSREC-4 includes both real and simulated reverberant speech with convoluting impulse responses in the same environment. In addition, it consists of many room impulse responses to simulate various env...

Optimization of dereverberation parameters based on likelihood of speech recognizer

Speech recognition under reverberant condition is a difficult task. Most dereverberation techniques used to address this problem enhance the reverberant waveform independent from that of the speech recognizer. In this paper, we improve the conventional Spectral Subtraction-based (SS) dereverberation technique. In our proposed approach, the dereverberation parameters are optimized to improve the...

A new approach for the adaptation of HMMs to reverberation and background noise

Looking at practical application scenarios of speech recognition systems several distortion effects exist that have a major influence on the speech signal and can considerably deteriorate the recognition performance. So far, mainly the influence of stationary background noise and of unknown frequency characteristics has been studied. A further distortion effect is the hands-free speech input in...

Blind estimation of room acoustic parameters using kernel regression

Room acoustic parameters are key information for dereverberation or speech recognition. Usually, when one needs to assess the level of reverberation, only the reverberation time RT60 or a direct to reverberant sounds index Dτ is estimated. Yet, methods which blindly estimate the reverberation time from reverberant recorded speech do not always differentiate the RT60 from the Dτ to evaluate the ...

Model-based blind estimation of reverberation time: application to robust ASR in reverberant environments

This paper presents a method for blind estimation of reverberation times in reverberant enclosures. The proposed algorithm is based on a statistical model of short-term log-energy sequences for echo-free speech. Given a speech utterance recorded in a reverberant room, it computes a Maximum Likelihood estimate of the room full-band reverberation time. The estimation method is shown to require li...
